From Tokyo, take the Chuo Expressway to Fujiyoshida (about 100km, 2 hours). Internationally, fly into Tokyo's Narita or Haneda airports, then take a bus or train to Fujiyoshida (2-3 hours). No direct international flights to Fujiyoshida.
The most convenient airport for Fujiyoshida is Tokyo's Haneda Airport, due to its extensive domestic and international connections. It's approximately 130km away, making it a practical choice for travellers.
Fujiyoshida, Japan, is well-served by public transport. The Fujikyu Railway line connects it to major cities, while local buses offer routes to key attractions. Taxis are readily available, and bike rentals are an eco-friendly alternative. Walking is feasible for short distances. Driving is an option, but remember Japan drives on the left.
The best area to stay in Fujiyoshida, Japan is the Lake Kawaguchiko area. It offers stunning views of Mount Fuji, easy access to local attractions, and a variety of accommodation options. It's ideal for both sightseeing and relaxation.

We stayed for 3 nights - perfect for walking to sights like the pagoda, and a full day at Fuji Q. It meant we could choose our day according to the weather when most rides were open. There was a good variety of restaurants in the area, we had an especially good meal in ‘Aio’. Even in low cloud and rain it was interesting to wander round and fall into cafes and we had the pleasure of suddenly seeing the majesty of Mt Fuji when the clouds cleared. Fujiyoshida was a relaxing change to the tourist bustle of Kyoto and Nara which we’d just been to.

I stayed near the Shimoyoshida Station at Asumi Onsen.
I stayed near the Shimoyoshida Station at Asumi Onsen. I am very glad that I did not stay in Kawaguchiko, which is swamped by huge numbers of tourists from all over the world, causing long lines in every store anywhere near the train station. I got Mt. Fuji views from everywhere but my stay was relaxed and amongst the local Japanese, except at the Chureito Pagoda. Mountains and hiking paths were nearby. On my last day, I went to Kawaguchiko Station to pick up a bus back to Tokyo. One look at the long lines and tourists clogging the streets made me certain that I made the right choice to stay away from all that.

Fujiyoshida is a tourist area.
Fujiyoshida is a tourist area. Within half an hour drive around are ropeways, scenic areas, hikes temples and various other activities like quad bike riding, zip line, safari, rides, outlet shopping, etc. You need to be there to know what is there. For example, Mishima Sky Bridge is not just a scenic area but filled with lots of fun activities. A good time to go is to be able to catch the sunset on the bridge against Mount Fuji. Magical.

Fujiyoshida has some great viewing points for Fuji San, the town itself is quiet but has some lovely places to eat. Even though it is so close to the biggest tourist attraction in Japan it doesn’t feel busy with tourists.

The town was very quiet when we arrived on Sunday morning, which was a most welcome change after being in Tokyo for a few days. It is easy to travel between the town and Fuji Q Highland with the train. The shops in the town are quaint and we enjoyed our time there very much. Everyone we encountered was very welcoming and friendly and helpful.

I came to climb MT. Fuji. And climb it I did.
I came to climb MT. Fuji. And climb it I did. But when you spend all your effort to get there, why not stay for a few days. It gives you a better feeling for the area, and gives you better opportunity if there is bad weather to make the climb. I think you will love being there. I will aways remember my stay!
Check-in was smooth and easy. Hotel had ample parking lots
DHC amenities were available at Level 1. Breakfast buffet was simple and every delicious
Absolutely loved the hotel staff from Check-in to restaurant and even Housekeeping. Hotel was not very big but it was VERY BIG on their hospitality and smiles. Hot spring bath was new and comfortable with a majestic of Mt Fuji on a clear day
There were 4 washing machines and 4 dryers so really convenient with families in tow
Lots of restaurants nearby and supermarkets as well
Room and the two beds are spacious for 2 adults and 2 young children (5 and 8 yo). Location about 5 min walk from Mt. Fuji station. Easy to find as it's located by the main road. There's a supermarket across the hotel (I didn't go there so no clue what's in there). Light breakfast (ie breads, juice, tea/coffee) but enough to start the day. Coin washing machine and dryer as well vending machine for drinks available in the public area. Coffee, tea and hot water available at the reception area.
I love this hotel, it's like the main part of Kawaguchiko to me, stayed here when it was just open in January 2017 and I miss it everytime I leave. Sleeping and waking up « with the Mt.Fuji » is always a pleasure, but the rooms on the parking side have a nice forest and valley view as well. The onsen is always a real treat especially the open air part. The resraurant's buffet have half Japanese and half Western food so it's well thought and balanced. Staff was formal and kind as always.
Amazing view of mt fuji from the living room. Very very clean. Very convenient location. Sweet and kind host. Get to sleep on Japanese style futon. And great restaurants close by as well as 7-11 and the main shrine/temple which begins the official trail up mt fuji.
That's a plain photo out the window from the living room. Not a painting or a filtered photo. Amazing. Lol.
The staff were extremely friendly & helpful. Our room was comfortable. We had a private onsen which was so nice to use after a long day of walking. The instructions for the onsen were also super clear and easy to follow. Also, the hotel is located a ways off the main road so it is quiet - which is so nice as the onsen are located on the room balconies. Very relaxing!
Yumiko is the best! Such a lovely host!
We had the best time in fujiyoshida thanks to her.
When we came it was raining and we couldn't do a lot. But we didn't even notice the time go by having lovely conversations with her. Also the best English speaker we met in Japan.
Highly recommended!
She also makes tasty breakfast that she will customise to your needs
The hotel is in a wonderful location and you can see Mount Fuji so clearly from the roof, it really was stunning. It is near the station and is also near many convenience stores and supermarkets. There is a cafe/bar you can eat in. The beds were comfy and the room was very basic but very nice. It's really great value for the location and room.
Nice hotel. Located about 7 minutes walk from Fuji Q Highland park (from the south entrance which is not the entrance. Officially).
We got a room with an amazing view of Mount Fuji and it was amazing to start the day with this view.
The Wi-Fi in the room is fine, occasionally disconnects.
There is an Onsen in the hotel.
Excellent location near the train station/ bus station; very convenient. Entire hotel including room was clean and in excellent condition, and staff (owner, I think) was very helpful. Worked as a great starting point to climb Mt Fuji since it is clean and good value, and right by the bus station.
This property is located in the quiet neighborhood. You can see Mt Fuji on every street and corner. It is nice to walk around the area. It is only 15 min walk to the famous Arakura Fuji Sengen Shrine. The owner is also very nice and friendly. I enjoyed the time staying at this hotel.
Traditional Japanese hostel. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful - they helped to book a bus to Tokyo and even cut the end off our walking sticks from mount Fuji so it would fit in our bags. The hostel was very clean and comfortable. I would highly recommend staying here!
You can view the Mt Fuji clearly from the rooftop on clear days. We requested breakfast and dinner at the hotel and enjoyed Japanese dishes. Staff members were very polite and helpful.
Rooms are very spacious and different sizes of yukata are available.
Hotel is very close to the train and bus station. The room was clean and very spacious. Staff was very helpful. They even provide pajamas! The common area is nicely designed and there is a common kitchen to use.
The hotel has such a great view of Mount Fuji, and the connecting onsen/ spa offers the chance to truly relax. The Japanese restaurant served excellent food, and all staff were friendly and attentive.
Great place if you are looking to stay at a traditional Japanese hotel. The owners were very kind and forthcoming, there was a private onsen and the breakfast was delicious. Definitely recommend.
The room was clean and tidy and with enough space. The view from the restaurant was fantastic.
The hotel is not too far away from the city, so it is convenient to get other local food.
Great bedroom with a lot of space and the view of Mount Fuji is the best. The hot tub is awesome as well.
Happy with the shuttle service since the hotel is in a very remote location.
