Called the 'City of Sails' due to the large number of yachts anchored in Waitemata Harbour, Auckland is the largest city of both New Zealand and Polynesia. Built on the Auckland Volcanic Field featuring about 48 extinct volcanoes, this city truly offers a blast!
Auckland is a real cultural mix with strong Asian, European, Maori and Polynesian influences, celebrated in frequent festivals and sporting events. Some examples of these cultures can be seen at the Auckland War Memorial Museum, one of the best in New Zealand. For more, try the upmarket dining of the Viaduct Harbour.
Another must-see is the tallest free-standing tower in the Southern Hemisphere, the Sky Tower. If you’re feeling up to the challenge, you can even perform the Sky Jump, a controlled base jump from 192 metres!
Climbing the volcanic cones as well as the stunning Auckland Harbour Bridge will provide unforgettable, panoramic views of the city’s skyline. For a different perspective, why not try a cruise or sea kayaking?
Getting to the city centre is an easy trip from Auckland International Airport. Find modern hotels, comfortable motels and cheap hostels on Booking.com, sure to have the perfect accommodation for your holiday.
The CBD area has a lot to walk too. The dinner at the orbit in skytower was very good. The wine tour to Waiheke was lovely! Do note the ferry ride is $55 return if you book online.
Piha black Sand Beach is about 50 mins from Auckland. I would suggest a stop off at the Arataki visitor centre before heading to Piha. I would also suggest going to the Mercer bay Loop. It is a bit of a steep walk, but can be done within an hour. Just make sure you do the loop and start where the marker is. The walk up the other way is not as bad as going down.
The hop on hop off bus was helpful. I also suggest a stroll up Mount Eden. You get beautiful views of Auckland.

Auckland was clean and felt safe but it wasn't terribly exciting. It's a good place to fly into / out of but only worth a day or two on its own. Around 5 -6pm and most places are closed. There's a decent selection of restraunts and cafes covering a wide range of countries / dishes.
I walked everywhere but there are escooters all over the place which look to be preferred method of travel.
I spent a day hiking around Rangitoto Island which was enjoyable. Very interesting to be walking amongst volcanic rubble.
I went to the Sky Tower but it's not actually that tall and having just flown in, the views from the plane were far better. Also the windows on the first viewing floor were not that clean. I would not recommend the Sky Tower.

The city center is not too big, so there is no need to spend more than 2 days here. I would recommend to visit one of the islands close to Auckland like Waiheke, it was the best decision ever.
I would 100% recommend to visit the sky tower, but do not waste your money eating at the Orbit 360 restaurant, the food is not worth the money, maybe try the bar.

I loved how many different food options there were near me in Auckland, we went to multiple food courts and stunning restaurants as well as low-key bars. It was easy to get Ubers, ferries, buses, and scooters as well as walk around the city.

There was a lot to see.
There was a lot to see. Very easy to get around by bus if you knew where you were going. Extremely hilly as you would expect being in a volcanic region. Boat trips very good. We ate in various places in the city and they were much of a muchness.
Fantastic stay at Aarangi Motel. Beautiful large clean room, just 100m from a lovely beach, bars and bus stop to the city centre ( buses every 15 minutes) Despite the weather being very hot and humid the room was beautifully airy and we rarely needed to use the two fans provided. Veronica was a great host and, nothing was too much trouble. With access to Auckland CBD just a 15 minute bus ride away I think we would always stay here in preference to a city hotel / apartment. Thank you very much Team Aarangi, you made our stay superb
Situated in Auckland CBD next to Sky Tower this hotel is as central as it gets. Transport from/to airport is easy with Uber. I reccon the hotel was built in the eighties and got a charm from that period. By that time this 14 story building must have been one of the highest in the neighborhood. The full English breakfast is well done. The rooms are tidy and well looked after. They leave messages if they cant tidy for instance the bed of some reason. Good!
Rooms ate super comfy with lots of space. Enormous beds with crisp clean sheets make for a great night sleep. Housekeeping do a fabulous job in keeping Rooms clean and tidy.
Friendly knowledgeable concierge team who are always on hand when needed, always greeted us with a smile.
Love that the express Airport bus drop off/pick up and Intercity buses are located at the back of the hotel...so easy to get to.
Short walk to city centre and shopping.
Wow this is a hidden gem in Auckland CBD. Me and my 12 year old daughter stayed here when we attended concert at Eden Park. Room was very comfy and clean. Staff very friendly on arrival. Great location, was easy walk to Eden Park and also into CBD. The price was significantly lower than other hotels in CBD but quality was great. Highly recommend for those on a budget who still want safe, comfy and clean place to stay.
I stayed here 3 or 4 times for a couple of days over 10 weeks in New Zealand. close to bus stop for inter city bus and airport bus. Great value as location is excellent. The lower (cheaper) one bedroom floors are not so great - on 2/F there is quite a bit of street noise, but upper floors with a suite type - bedroom and kitchen/living room woith balcony are excellent and still good valiue
It was a very nice hotel at a reasonable price! Close to the airport and it takes approx 20 minutes to travel to the CBD via uber. I really love the self check-in and check-out service as it is just efficient. Has never seen one before in any hotels but it's a quick process rather than having to queue up at the counter.
The room is spacious and comfortable.
The location is great, we had a free parking & breakfast included which was a great value for us to stay in the city centre. Parking lot is located right next to the hotel that made it very convenient.
The room was clean and comfortable, and all the staff were friendly - we were treated very well.
We’ll definitely stay again when we go to Auckland next time.
The room was very comfortable. The location was good, close to city bus stops and two hop on hop off bus stops. The restaurant on the property was good, we had dinner there twice during our stay. Everyone on staff was friendly and helpful. Local tour companies would pick us up at our hotel because of its nearness to downtown, as did the airport shuttle.
The hot options for breakfast were a highly welcome additional bonus. Large helpings of scrambled egg and sausages will keep you filled for far longer than continental style cold food. Rooms were huge with plenty of features including a mini kitchen. Elevators were plentiful and fast. Hotel is close to many important Auckland CBD sights.
We had a wonderful stay at the Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbor. The location right on the water in Viaduct Harbor was perfect. The hotel facilities are excellent, including the room and spa. The breakfast buffet food selection was extensive and everything was wonderful. Finally, all staff were very helpful and friendly.
Despite no directions from airport to hotel (not the facilities fault) just beeline out of international arrival cross the street and you will be around the Auckland airport shopping centre where Ibis is located. 10-15 min power walk from ibis to international departures. Staff are friendly. Room is clean and simple.
Great property close to the airport. Room was clean and comfortable. The hotels own shuttle service was great, called from the airport and picked up soon after and got dropped off at car hire the next morning. Friendly staff, will definitely stay here the next time we are passing through Auckland.
Luxury hotel with big comfy room that is well decorated and laid out. Solid balcony that came with room and very nice restaurant (we had breakfast). Stayed at another Auckland hotel during our stay in New Zealand and this one was way better. Also very good location and proximity to main city area.
Location fantastic, we took the local bus into the city to get around and the bus was directly outside. Parking at the hotel was free unlike other hotels in the centre of Auckland. The room was clean and tidy with plenty of space. Breakfast was good value
After a long day walking around Auckland's CBD and some of the closer malls, The first thing we wanted to do was jump into bed once we got back to the hotel. The bed was made well, Presented to be clean and was very comfortable.
They were very responsive and very accomodating of my request for late check in. The hotel is modern, clean , well appointed, lots of amenities in the room, quiet, close to the airport and to airport parking: in short, perfect.
For a budget central city hotel in Queen Street I was pleasantly surprised at the size of the room and had all the usual amenities. Very helpful staff with sorting taxis to airport for our group at a good price.
This is a good location providing airport transport for when you have to stay overnight in Auckland. A good tidy budget transit hotel. There were rooms with King size beds which was nice to have this option.
Great breakfast and nice to have airport shuttle. Take the shuttle to the airport and catch the bus to the train to go to Auckland CBD. The gym was small but nice and sign says a new gym/pool are coming soon.
Cheap and cheerful airport hotel with convenient, free, hourly shuttle service to and from the airport. Big room with a comfortable bed and really quiet and peaceful, despite being so close to s major road.
