Bandipur is a pearl. If you decide to go there, save at least 2 days! Walking around this town, especially to Ramkot (village that feels like stepping into a movie or going back to the past) will be an amazing experience which you will never forget. Cars and horns are forbidden in Bandipur so the only sounds you can hear are goats, cows, birds, joyfull children or foodsellers.

We relished the opportunity to escape motorbikes and cars after Kathmandu. Bandipur seems to be a little known escape from the urban hustle and worth the tiny extra effort to get there. The renovation of the tourist centre is excellent with retention of century old homes. These made an interesting contrast to the surrounding streets of Bandipur, with a mix of more modern as well as more basic homes and the integration of agricultural practices in semi-urban living.
We walked to Ramkot which was fascinating.

A very quaint old village yet very beautiful and serene.
A very quaint old village yet very beautiful and serene. Gives you a feel of Europe sue to its small ground+1 structure and beautiful architect of the buildings.
Old town but still so very well maintained, best part is no vehicles allowed in the market street, travelers can walk around leisurely and it has lot many small cafes and restaurants. One can get a great aroma of freshly brewed coffee as well as it has many local food which are great value for money.
I would avoid to have a short stay next time, Bandipur is atleast worth a 3-4 nights trip for people who love to stay away from hustle and bustle of the city.

Clean, fresh, peaceful, the local Nepali culture has been thoughtfully preserved. Tangible sense of a community spirit, with friendly, helpful locals. The bazaar, shopping street, is paved and closed to traffic, making it a peaceful and enjoyable place to spend a few days. There are interesting walks around the area, taking in a buddhist temple, beautiful landscapes, and a very interesting village close by, (Ramkot) feels like a journey back in time!

Friendly vibrant town very different from other Nepalese places, much more chilled. Get your own dresses made at the tailors on the Main Street, I had 3 made to measure for less than the price of one off the peg at home.

The main street has an uniquely Nepali charm.
The main street has an uniquely Nepali charm. It is for pedestrians only. Best place to loaf around. The Mahalaxmi temple downhill from the street is a lovely little temple, peaceful worth visiting. For the visitors not travelling by taxi, taking the public bus down to Pokhra-Kathmandu highway and from their the bus to Pokhra or Kathmandu is very simple and reliable. There is no need to book on special tourist bus that costs three times as much.
